I am James Baker and I am a traditional boat builder based in Penryn, Cornwall.
I have over 20 years of experience working as a wooden boat builder on boats from 5′ -100′. I build and maintain traditional wooden sailing and motor vessels carrying out repairs and maintenance for an wide range of returning and new customers every year. I have also been fortunate to work on some very exciting new builds and notable restorations of wooden vessels in Cornwall and Europe.
I currently live aboard and sail my own 42′ west country dandy rigged gaff ketch ‘Lively’. I designed her along the lines of a fishing boat and built her at Gweek boat yard and we launched her in 2015. I live onboard with my wife and two daughters and we have cruised her extensively with plans to explore the Spanish coast this summer.
